History

The P-51D is often considered the ultimate version of the North American Mustang, featuring several key enhancements to its already successful design. These upgrades included a new bubble canopy for improved pilot visibility, the introduction of an efficient K-14 gunsight, increased firepower, enhancements to the ammunition feed system to minimise jamming, and the option of lightweight external fuel tanks to extend the aircraft's range. The Mustang played a crucial role in the Allied victory in Europe, achieving more air-to-air combat victories than any other USAAF fighter in the European Theatre.
